Memory tricks

Katakana = Western import: テーブル (table), ベッド (bed), ドア (door), テレビ (TV), トイレ (toilet).

Decode the compounds: 時計 (time + measure = clock), 眼鏡 (eye + lens = glasses), 冷蔵庫 (cold + store + warehouse = fridge).
